When Mama died in 2008, she left me some money. Now I know you think I should have contacted a financial advisor. However, I decided to take some of that money and honor Mama by getting rid of the wrinkles I inherited from her. I got a facelift in Highlands, North Carolina!
Though I have been very pleased with the results, I was not prepared for the experience. I was in surgery for six hours. That’s a long time to be under sedation and when I finally woke up and looked in the mirror, I was horrified by how swollen I was. Evidently, I had also had a lot of bleeding which can be an issue. I felt like roadkill and the pain medicine simply nauseated me. I went home the next day and spent the next six weeks sleeping in a reclining chair to keep my head elevated. I made the mistake of trying to go back to work four days after the surgery. I made it until about 10:00 AM. There is no way to keep your facelift a secret if you go back to work. I know now why women who do this take mysterious trips out of town for a few weeks. I just finally sent an email to my colleagues, told them what I had done, and said I hoped they would like the new me. The men looked at me in a weird way. The women all wanted the details and said they planned to start saving to do the same.
Now that it’s over and has been a few years, it’s kind of like labor and delivery. The Lord has you forget so you would do it again. I have forgotten most of the experience but I remember enough to say that once is enough. If I need anything else, I’ll just get some Botox and Juvederm. Botox works great for the line between the brows and Juvederm is great around the mouth. I have no shame about admitting my beauty enhancements to the world. First Daughter has already announced to her husband that she will be doing the same- like mother, like daughter.
I wonder if I will ever reach the point where this stuff doesn’t matter. I kind of doubt it. I have been this way since a little tyke. If anyone is interested, I had a great plastic surgeon in Highlands, North Carolina. You could come get a room at the Old Edwards Inn in town and stay for a while in what we call Atlanta’s mountain play ground- beautiful scenery, waterfalls, great food, incredible shopping. Just the place to hide from your friends while you heal. Go for it!
